Lead dropped again by 10.8 percent on Thursday and even more with $24 down to $1,336 on Friday as expected car battery demand lessens. Concern that China may stop production of their lead smelters as concentrate supply falls caused an increase in lead prices. China is the world’s biggest producer of lead. Hindustan Zinc, a leading metal producer, increased the price of zinc and lead by Rs 1400 a tonne and Rs 1700 a tonne, respectively. Zinc would now cost Rs 90,300 a tonne while lead would be available at Rs 99,000 a tonne, a company circular said here today. Find the article here.
